Elmhurst Historical Museum earns honors for Visionary and 50th anniversary exhibit
The Elmhurst Historical Museum is proud to announce that it has earned two prestigious awards from the Illinois Association of Museums (IAM), which will be added to a growing number of accolades the museum has received in recent months.
The IAM notified the museum that it has earned a Superior Achievement Award for the book, Visionary: An Elmhurst Retrospective by Dr. Virginia Stewart. Visionary was published in 2006 to commemorate the museum's 50th anniversary. The IAM committee commented that the book is "beautifully executed, well researched and very accessible to a wider audience", and particularly appreciated the inclusion of many beautiful photos of artifacts from the museum's collection. The book also received top honors earlier this year when the American Association of Museums named it a first place winner in their 27th annual AAM Museum Publications Design Competition.
In addition to the Visionary award, the IAM also issued an Award of Merit to the museum for the exhibit, "50 Years of Collecting: You Won't Believe What's Here!" The exhibit, which was organized by museum curator Lynne Jenco, featured artifacts selected by the entire museum staff and was on display from January through May of 2007 as part of the museum's 50th anniversary celebration.
The Superior Achievement Award and the Award of Merit will be presented to the Elmhurst Historical Museum at the IAM's annual meeting in
Springfield on October 26, 2007.

Elmhurst Historical Museum Wins Numerous Prestigious Awards for "Visionary"
The American Association of Museums (AAM) has announced a First Place Award to Elmhurst Historical Museum for "Visionary: An Elmhurst Retrospective," a recently published book about Elmhurst history. The book was selected as a first place winner in the 2007 27th Annual AAM Museum Publications Design Competition which acknowledges excellence in the graphic design of museum publications. In addition, the Illinois State Historical Society awarded a Certificate of Excellence for "Visionary: An Elmhurst Retrospective" to Elmhurst Historical Museum at its annual meeting on April 28, 2007.
