The history of Elmhurst is an engaging and interesting subject for young Elmhurst students as shown by the many creative entries recently submitted for the 2008 Ruth Strand Poster Contest. The Elmhurst Heritage Foundation and the Elmhurst Historical Museum sponsored the seventh annual Ruth Strand Poster Contest by inviting second and third grade students to submit an original drawing that depicts a scene from Elmhurst history. Approximately 250 entries were received during the contest which honors Ruth Strand, long-time director of the Elmhurst Public Library and founding member of the Elmhurst Historical Museum.
Following are this year's top winners in the Ruth Strand Poster Contest:
1st Place: Lauren Noonan, Lincoln School
2nd Place: Bethany Wilms, Lincoln School
Honorable Mention: Annika Ward, Lincoln; Sierra Kitchen, Immanuel Lutheran; Jessica Cwik, Immanuel Lutheran; Max Albers, Emerson; Maggie Bleyer, Edison; Maggie Schmidt, Edison; and Cambria Khayat, Jackson.
