You may be surprised by what's buried in your yard. That's because today, more power, gas, water, and telecommunications companies are delivering utility services underground. To avoid damaging those lines, state law requires you to call JULIE before any digging project, regardless of the project size or depth.

JULIE, Inc. is a not-for-profit message handling service for homeowners and contractors. JULIE operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The call is free and so are the services. Just call a helpful call center operator at JULIE and they'll alert their member utility companies of your plans to dig so they can come out an mark their unerground lines at your site. JULIE neither owns nor marks any underground facilities.

All you need to do is call two working days in advance. For more information, visit www.illinois1call.com.

Common examples of homeowner projects that require a call to JULIE before digging include putting up a fence; installing a swing set, a mail box post, or water feature such as a pool, pond, or fountain; building a deck or room addition; preparing a new garden area; or planting trees, bushes, or shrubs.
