Winter Ski Trip... (Grades 9-12)
Whether you are a beginner or an expert skier/snowboarder, our trips will be sure to challenge your skills. Rental prices include ski rentals only. If you are interested in snowboarding, please register at the lift rate and bring your own snowboard and boots. We will depart and return to The Abbey, 407 W. St. Charles Rd. Transportation for this trip will be by bus. Registration deadline is Jan. 23 for Chestnut Mountain.
Home Alone (Ages 8-13 years)
This American Red Cross program teaches children issues related to staying home alone. Activities support safety awareness and home emergencies. Children develop a parental contract to identify their responsibilities in situations without adult supervision. Children must be 8 years old by September 1, 2004. Children will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the class.
Elmhurst Park District Dance Troupe (Ages 8 - Adult)
Tap, technique, routines and jazz are developed at a more advanced level. Junior and Intermediate troupe members are encouraged to take the elective ballet class (317B-4) to develop their strength and flexibility.
Musical Theatre (Ages 7-10)
Young actors have the opportunity to explore singing, dancing, and acting as they learn to build a performance of scenes from familiar musicals. By incorporating theatre games, movement, and improvisation, each student will develop selfconfidence and the freedom to explore the world of their imagination. Emphasis is placed on having fun! Class ends with a performance for family and friends.
Voice Lessons (Ages 9-Adult)
Learn to sing with the very best voice possible. Breath control, pitch, articulation, use of vibrato, and other skills are taught in this program. Participants may focus on almost any style of music - from classical and opera to jazz, from show tunes and pop to country. In addition to the program fee, students will need to purchase sheet music.
Drum Lessons (Ages 8-Adult)
This program is designed for beginning through advanced drum players. Students are taught technique, drum separation, timing, stick control, double bass, soloing, patterns, workouts and exercises, chart reading, original fills and beats as well as how to read sheet music. All lessons are recorded and one tape is given to each student.
Violin Lessons (Ages 8-Adult)
This program is designed for beginning through advanced violin players. Each student must have a violin (sized to fit the student), a bow, and resin. Students are taught through the Muller Rusch series. This class is taught through a combination of aural and traditional reading approach.
Guitar Lessons (Ages 8-18)
This program is designed for beginning through advanced guitar players. Each student must have a guitar. Students are taught to read music through the Mel Bay series. Handouts are used to teach popular songs.
Piano Lessons (Ages 6-18)
This program is designed for beginning through advanced piano players. Students learn to read and perform pieces from the John W. Schaum piano series. Each student is instructed based on completion of previous levels and instructor approval. A piano or keyboard is necessary for practice at home.
Young Rembrandt's (Ages 3 1/2-12)
Young Rembrandt's makes drawing EASY! Our step-by-step teaching method ensures success and understanding for each child. Age-appropriate lessons teach students spatial organization, listening skills, fine motor skills, and staying on task. Subject matter varies from animals, landscapes, still life and much more. Cartoon drawing focuses on a different element of cartooning each week including expressions, movement, cartoon sound and sequencing for telling a joke. Pencil, markers, and sharpie techniques are taught. Basic Drawing class also teaches colored pencil techniques. All new lessons each week and all materials are supplied.
Hands-On Ceramics (Ages 7-12)
Get your hands wet and messy while learning about the history of ceramics, equipment, materials and tools. This class will focus on hand building and applying texture and color. Bring an apron or art smock and dress casually. No prior experience necessary.
Young Rembrandt's Animal Cartooning (Ages 7-12)
Pastels are an exciting media and the Young Rembrandt's step-by-step method ensures dramatic and successful results. Learn drawing, shading, color blending with pastels and complete a new 12" x 18" pastel drawing each day of class. Please wear an old shirt or a smock to class each day.
E.S.I. (Ages 9-12)
Environemental Science Investigations is a class for kids who enjoy investigating scientific principles, performing experiments, working on long-term projects, and discovering how science influences our daily lives. E.S.I. is an active, hands-on experience. Participants should come prepared to go outside and get dirty.
Safari Club (Ages 4-7 & 6-12)
Friday night at the Lake View Nature Center is a great way to kick off the weekend! Now divided by age groups, kids will play games, do projects, hike, and much more. A snack is served. Dress to go outside.
Gymnastics - Comets (Ages 8-10)
Class concentrates primarily on gymnastic skills as well as overall fitness. Participants develop their skills on the vault, beam, uneven bars, Tumbl-Trak and tumbling. No previous experience necessary.
Gymnastics - Super Stars (Pre-Team) (Ages 5-7)
Must have been enrolled in Rising Stars. Coaching staff selects gymnasts that are ready to move to the next level. Gymnasts learn USA gymnastics Level 4 compulsory routines.
Gymnastics - Dynamites - Compulsory Team (Levels 5 & 6) (Ages 6 & older)
Coach's recommendation is required to participate. The Elmhurst Park District Dynamites Compulsory Team follows USA Gymnastics and Illinois High School Association guidelines. Team members may participate in USA Gymnastics Compulsory meets at levels 4, 5 & 6. Meet fees are not included.
Silver Stars - Boy's Developmental Gymnastics (Ages 6 & older - Beginner)
Gymnasts work on all six Olympic events - high bar, floor exercise, vault, pommel horse, rings and parallel bars, with an emphasis on tumbling skills.
Flip Stars - Boy's Developmental Gymnastics (Ages 6 & older - Intermediate)
Gymnasts work on all six Olympic events - high bar, floor exercise, vault, pommel horse, rings and parallel bars, with an emphasis on tumbling skills.
Private Gymnastic Lessons (Ages 4 & older)
The Elmhurst Park District offers private gymnastic lessons for those participants interested in individual attention. A private, 1/2 hour lesson is available for $25R/$35NR and a 1 hour lesson is available for $50R/$63NR. Contact Donna Cunningham at (630) 993-8901 to arrange for lessons.
Gymnastics Open Gym (Ages 6 and older)
Come drop-in for an afternoon of fun. This free program is part of a cooperative effort between Elmhurst School District 205 and the Elmhurst Park District. Play basketball, soccer, tag or other games of your choosing. Set aside some time for you and your child(ren) to take time for fun. Please note that parents are required to remain at the site with their children during this program.
Karate (Ages 8 to Adult)
Taught in the traditional Japanese style, this program develops self-discipline, coordination, endurance, and self-confidence. Classes meet two days per week during a calendar month. Uniforms are recommended and are available for purchase from the instructor.
Youth Tang Soo Do Karate (Ages 10-12)
Karate encourages development physically and mentally. Tang Soo Do classes develop a strong foundation of balance, mobility, flexibility and strength. Expect to improve endurance, coordination and power for a great overall workout. Students are recommended to attend two or more classes per week.
Climbing Wall (Ages 6 & older)
Why climb? Climbing challenges you both mentally and physically and gives you an excellent way to learn life skills and improve selfesteem. Climbing offers a total body workout - toning and strengthening as well as providing a cardiovascular workout. Strength is actually secondary to balance, flexibility and technique. Our state-of-the-art climbing center offers a variety of walls for beginners to the more advanced climber.
Junior Beginners Tennis (Ages 8-17)
These lessons are for the player who is just starting to play tennis. Through skill-enhancing games, students will learn the proper technique for all major strokes as well as an introduction to the rules of the game.
Junior Excellence Tennis Programs... (Ages 11-18)
The Junior Excellence Program is designed for the player who wishes to become a tournament/high school competitor. It is recommended that participants register for two classes per week. Players must have approval of Greg Spencer, Jr. Coordinator, prior to enrolling in this program.
First Aid for Little People... (Ages 5-7)
This American Red Cross program is designed to help young children recognize emergencies, learn how to stay clam, call 911, and develop a fire action plan. Basic treatment for cuts and burns is reviewed. Children must be 5-years-old before the start of the class. Children will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the class.
Being Lost-Safety First... (Ages 5-7)
Getting separated from Mom and Dad can be a very scary experience, but participants in this class gain the tools necessary to handle the dilemma. Parent and child participants learn the three basic rules of what a lost child should do, and a "just in case" strategy that increases the chances of being reunited if separated. Parents will receive adult hints and information to take home and strategize with their children. Children will receive a certificate and take-home materials at the end of the class to talk over with their parents. No younger siblings please. Parents are required to stay and participate.
Twinkle Toes Dance... (Ages 3-4)
Preschoolers will explore and experiment with the fundamental elements of dance, body, space and time. A strong focus is placed on development of basic motor and locomotive skills with the use of age appropriate music and techniques. Attire: Girls- leotard, tights and pink leather ballet shoes. Boys- gym shorts or sweatpants, t-shirt, black ballet shoes (no jeans).
Nature Navigators... (Ages 6-9)
Kids will enjoy three hours filled with a wide variety of hands-on material, creative explorations and fun activities- all based around the theme of the day. A snack is provided. Please dress to go outside.
Professor Presto's Magic Camp... (Ages 7-12)
Our camp begins with two hours of magic tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind reading and more. After lunch will be a workshop learning magic wand techniques. While tricks may appear difficult, you'll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit and a magic wand to take home. Please bring a sack lunch and drink to camp.

Safe Sitter (Ages 11-14 without parent)
This American Academy of Pediatrics nationally recognized program teaches
children, ages 11-14, how to be safe and nurturing baby sitters. The program
teaches sitters to have fun with children, how to recognize an emergency and
the actions to take, injury prevention and the business of baby sitting. Special
note: Please bring a bag lunch and juice. Snack will be provided.
Teen Belly Dance (Ages 13-17)
Want to dance like Shakira? Learn hip and arm techniques that will improve your posture,
alance and coordination, develop muscle tone and enhance your self-esteem. This exciting
and tasteful art form is a great way to exercise, build awareness and have fun!

Join the latest funky dance craze in hip-hop steps as we jam to the latest trendy music.
Learn the fundamental techniques of hip-hop dance. Dancers will begin class with stretches
and isolations followed by basic exercises in techniques and combinations. Your child will
learn to identify footwork and gain a good working knowledge of jazz and hip-hop steps. Fee
includes rental costume, tights, and four tickets.

Basic Beading (Ages 16 and older)
Introduction to basic beading. A variety of design and stringing methods will be used to
complete four to five projects. Stringing materials will be included. Finding and beads are
extra- available for purchase or bring your own.
Sew Your Own Pajama Pants (Ages 9-15)
Kids grab your sewing machines and join us for a class that will excite boys and girls when they
learn how to make something that they want to wear. Kids will create their own pattern as well as a
pair of comfy pajama pants. They will learn how to read and follow a pattern, as well as basic construction
techniques, and how to use a sewing machine. The final product will be a great pair of pajama pants. See

Silversmithing - Jewelry Making (Ages 16-Adult)
The beginner silversmith learns the techniques of
working with sterling silver, including chasing,
sawing, filing, soldering, and polishing. Each student
has the opportunity to complete a bracelet, band
ring, pair of earrings or pendant. The experienced
silversmith (after completing two projects to the
satisfaction of the instructor) may select projects that
would involve the techniques of piercing, fusing,
chasing, repose, etc. Students must furnish their
own basic tools or purchase them as part of the
class fee. Silver and stones must be purchased (as
needed) for each project at an additional fee.
Students may be permitted to repeat classes
provided their activity is consistent with regular class
routine
Cutting and Polishing Stones for Jewelry (Ages 13-Adult)
This class is designed for all levels of experience.
Beginners learn to cut and polish various sizes and
shapes and fit the stone into a jewelry mounting
while the experienced student learns to cut
advanced shapes and will acquire techniques of
working with some of the more select materials.
Some material will be available for purchase. The fee
includes protective apron and stones for beginners
and stones for the experienced student. Some
materials will be available for purchase. Students
may be permitted to repeat classes provided their
activity is consistent with regular class routine.
Basic Wirewrapping - Jewelry (Ages 16-Adult)
Learn to create beautiful, custom jewelry using wire wrap techniques. This
method uses had tools to tightly bind wires together - no glue, solder, fire ,
machinery, or dangerous chemicals. You will learn to create rings, chains,
bracelets, earrings, etc. with and without stones or beads. Wire wrap is perfect
for setting unusually shaped stones because it can accommodate shapes that
may not fit into standard manufactured findings. Students must furnish their
own basic tools (files, pliers, etc.) or purchase them as part of the class fee.
Cardio Hip Hop (Ages 9 and olde)
Shake things up a little! This fresh and funky class will keep you moving to the latest
dance and hip-hop moves. Get in a great cardio workout while also developing coordination,
rhythm, core and lower body strength.
