Have a fun-filled time at York High School’s swimming pools on select Sundays. This free program is part of a cooperative agreement between Elmhurst School District 205 and the Elmhurst Park District. Lap swimming, open swim and diving boards will be available.

The evolving concept of freedom and its pursuit is explored in this touring exhibit from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, illuminating critical figures and events from our nation’s birth until 1968. Highlights include: reproductions of a rare 1776 printing of the Declaration of Independence, a secretly printed draft and official copy of the U.S. Constitution, Lincoln’s handwritten speech notes, and letters by Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, and Martin Luther King, Jr. The exhibit is supplemented with Elmhurst materials including a 1924 KKK rally flyer, manuscripts related to the Elmhurst Fair Housing Ordinance, and correspondence from veterans from the Civil War and WWI eras.

The dream-like imagery and enigmatic paintings by Gertrude Abercrombie include spare interiors and illusionary landscapes. Her works, which were historically important in Chicago, have been referred to as “psychic self-portraits”.
