Engineering TeamEngineering Division

7 full-time staff members (1 City Engineer, 4 Civil Engineers, 1 Utility Locator, and 1 Public Works Inspector), and 1 part-time Public Works Inspector comprise the division. The Engineering Division staff performs construction management of capital improvements and maintenance projects; which consist of contract, project and construction management, project planning, design, bidding and inspection. Normal annual construction projects that the division is responsible for include: Contract Paving (street resurfacing), watermain replacement, sidewalk replacement, coordination with utility companies on their construction projects (Nicor, ComEd, Comcast, AT&T, etc.), and coordination with IDOT and Illinois Tollway on major roadways.  All city utility (watermain, street light, fiber, sanitary, and storm) locate requests through the JULIE systems are provided by this division. This division also reviews and approves all site plans for private property development (commercial, residential, industrial, etc.).

Of note, The division was responsible for the design and construction of 14 major stormwater projects from 2015-2022, totaling almost $50M, which reduced or eliminated urban flooding for almost 400 residential homes in Elmhurst and added over 130 ac-ft of detention storage throughout the city.
